PressureGuard®
Custom Care®

Overwhelmingly preferred by caregivers and patients in multi-hospice trials:

“Because of factors known collectively as ‘skin failure’, skin integrity for end-of-life patients is often compromised. Therefore, wound healing is not always possible. In many cases, a more realistic goal for hospice providers is to maximize comfort and restful sleep while minimizing shear‐induced damage to weakened, friable skin. A newly developed, specialized support surface [PressureGuard Custom Care, from Span-America] was evaluated in seven hospice organizations. The surface was found superior in both comfort and prevention of further damage to skin integrity as compared to the powered and non‐powered surfaces typically available to hospice care providers.”

Custom Care:  Better Surface.  Better Care.

Span America's newest non-powered air-based treatment surface - the PressureGuard Custom Care – gives hospice providers a premium, easy-to-use alternative to alternating pressure pads and other surface 'upgrades'.

The Custom Care’s unique Metered Immersion™ design reacts to changes in surface loading through a series of interconnected longitudinal support chambers.  As the user moves or repositions on the surface, the chambers below react in concert—deflecting, transferring air, and venting—in relation to the user’s weight and position. The result is a blend of pressure management, shear reduction, comfort, and ease of operation not achievable with other non-powered systems.

The cover’s enhanced features include the unique design of the anti-microbial bi-directional stretch cover made with Span’s superior LifeSpan® fabric.

LifeSpan® is extremely durable and
cleanable and delivers outstanding resistance to chemical breakdown caused by bleach and other harsh disinfectants with its polycarbonate-fortified coating.

Its proprietary Shear Transfer Zone® cover design creates shear-minimizing bands beneath heels, sacrum and scapula to help "glide" user to original position after elevated head of bed is lowered. By doing so, it greatly reduces the potential for skin tearing and caregiver injury caused by sliding the user back up into position.
